- Judy McLaughlin
is a qualified secondary English and History teacher in a public
secondary school on the North Coast of New South Wales.
- Judy has
been teaching for ten years, (although she sometimes feels she's
been a teacher all her life!!) She has taught in Tweed Heads,
Murwillumbah, Hillston and Condobolin.
- Judy started
the original Edible English in December, 2000 because
there was no other book "out there" for her Year 12
class which provided an explanation of all the terms used in English.
It began as a "little booklet" and grew up to be Edible
English.
- The original
Edible English sold its first print run of 2,500 copies
in three months after its release in September, 2001, and has
been re-printed twice during 2002
- A primary-school
parent asked for an adaptation of Edible English that
she could use to assist her Year 4 daughter with her homework
and Edible English: Middle School Munchies has sold steadily
since its release in April, 2002.
- Feedback
from parents, students and teachers has prompted the release of
Edible English: The Second Edition which includes more
definitions, cross-referencing, appendix pages and has some examples
updated with more recent material.
- Judy has
also written the Awesome! Teacher's Book, published by
Pearson Education Australia 2002.
- Since the
release of her books, Judy has visited and given talks at a number
of schools in NSW and has enjoyed this immensely. She is more
than willing to visit schools, upon request.

The
Edible English series of books are possible because
of the enthusiasm, support and assistance of the following
people:
- Dr
Dorothy Baczkowski, my English teacher from high school;
- Rosie
McKellar, for keeping me "on track";
- Pamela
Bryant, who created a wonderful book cover and original
illustrations for the Edible English books;
- Jenny
Wray, Tracey Tebbutt, Penny Fields, Jenny (Bowker) Green
and Maureen Boyd: my "editorial team";
- Karina
Parker and Trent Morgan - my "student" readers;
- Gavin
Warren, Nathan Turner, Gillian Readford, Eileen Probert,
Brain Merton, Daniel Foster, Elisabeth Coward and Kane
Bell - these wonderful people were the inspiration for
the original Edible English;
- Bob
Engwerda, and Terry and Caroline Anderson - they know
why;
- And,
most importantly, Jessica McLaughlin, for her constant
nagging, criticism and existence.
